dc.description.abstractEn las aguas antárticas se han realizado escasos avistamientos de focas de Ross, no más de 500 hasta 1980, comparados con los numerosos registros de las otras especies de focas pagófilas. En el Territorio Chileno Antártico se han efectuado sólo 10 de estos registros, por lo que se considera importante informar de los 3 avistamientos realizados por investigadores nacionales en el período comprendido entre 1965 y 1994. Estos registros evidencian la escasa penetración de los observadores nacionales hacia el pack- ice denso, hábitat de esta especie. Se concluye que el programa internacional APIS es una alternativa real para que conozcamos la distribución y abundancia de esta y otras especies de focas pagófilas.es_ES
dc.description.abstractFew sightings of the Ross seal species, no more than 500 until 1980, compared with the numerous records of the other pagophilic seals, have occured. In the Chilean Antarctic Territory only 10 of these records have taken place. Therefore, it is important to report three sightings made by national scientists between 1965 -1994. These records set in evidence the limited entrance to the dense pack-ice, habitat of this species, by the national observers. It is concluded that the International Programme APIS is a real alternative for us to know the distribution and abundance of this and other species of pagophilic seals.es_ES
