Abstract
Field observations show that the distribution in patches of Usnea aurantiaco-atra and the survival of mosses that coexist with this species are variable strongly dependents. Furthermore, the frequence of alive mosses is higher between patches of lichens that under them. We propose a hypothesis of allelophatic effects to explain the mortality pattern observed in mosses.
