Abstract
Se informa del primer registro de un ejemplar de foca elefante, Mirounga leonina, en Isla de
Pascua, Chile. Un joven macho de esta especie fue avistado y fotografiado el 5 de enero de 1995 mientras descansaba en los roqueríos de Hanga Tee, Vaihu, costa sur de la isla. Se discute la posible causa de su origen y dispersión.
The first record of the Southern Elephant Seal, Mirounga leonina, on Easter Island, Chile, is reported. A young mate of this species was sighted and phoiographied on January 5th., 1995, while resting on the rocks of Hanga Tee, Vaihu, in the southern coast of the istand. The possible explanation of its origin and dispersal is discussed.
